A square next to the BNT building was named after the Czech brewers the Prošek Brothers

20 December,  2010

The square next to the BNT building shall bear the name of Bratya Proshek (Prošek Brothers), a today’s resolution of the Sofia City Council provides.

With this resolution the councilors unanimously revoked a previous resolution of theirs from 2007 where by the square between the San Stefano, Tulovo and Sheynovo Streets was named after the pianist Yuri Bukov, BTA reports. The change of the square’s name was voted on at the request of the local residents. The resolution was reasoned with the multitude of landmark buildings in the capital financed by the Prošek Brothers, as well as the Lions Bridge and the Eagles Bridge also constructed by them.

The beginning of the brewing industry development in our country is associated with the names of the Czech brothers Bohdan and Georgi Prošek.

In 1881 the Prošek Brothers started the construction of the famous brewery at 22 San Stefano Street in Sofia. Presently a luxury building is being constructed on its place.
